The first day we went to Marigot was during our first drive around the Island, and we just had lunch and a quick look and carried on. The ferry to Anguilla leaves from here.

The next time we went was Wednesday morning because that is the day that the local Market sets up in Marigot.

Susan loved all the wonderful spices such as the long sticks of cinnamon.

There were probably 50 vendors selling handicrafts and shirts and jewelry. Did I mention Tshirts?

Glen bought a Tshirt and a shirt. Susan had more fun -- a purse, 4 bracelets, a platter and 4 coasters. We wanted to bring home spices but thought that they'd never be allowed across the border.

After cruising the Market we wandered around town a little.

And eventually we found a round up the hill to Fort St Louis. It was an old fort built in 1767-1789 by the French to defend the young community of Marigot from the frequent raids by the English. A troop of a few dozen men held off hundreds due to their excellent position.

The view from there was great! We were able to see all the way back to the airport in Simpson Bay. One of the pictures on the left is a panorama view of the town, harbour and lagoon off in the distance.

In the last few shots you can see the island of Anguilla off in the distance to the West of Marigot. it's not that far away, and was recommended to us for a day trip, but we had plenty to do on St Martin itself!

Just a few shots of some of the plant life around the fort.

And one of the 2 churches in town. There were, of course, no windows - it is all wide open and the breeze blows through.
