One day we decided we'd actually go looking for Iguanas, so
I brought the long lens. There he is, head sticking up out on the Golf course.
We gradually got closer and closer, taking lots of pictures as we went,
expecting him to race off any moment, but he didn't.
Isn't he a scaly wonder? Great markings, scary looking spines on the
back, a huge long striped tail. We saw ones of quite different colours and
it seems they are somewhat chameleon-like.
He was about 15" long in the body and the tail was at least that long.
The locals say they catch them to make soup out of.
He seemed fearless. We got to within about 3 feet and still he didn't
move, or even bat an eye. I threw a little stick at him and even that didn't
make him budge.
The last shot is another one that was in the same area, but it climbed
the tree when it saw us coming. Might be a male / female pair, who knows? |
