Fox Cove - Mortier Population 442 (1996 Census) Fox Cove-Mortier is just a few minutes away from Burin. As you travel the countryside to get to these communities, you'll see some breathtaking scenery. This area was settled in the 1830's as the coves and sheltered arms of the area were advantageous to fishermen. Some of the early names in this area include Antil (Antle?), Cheeseman, Corcoran, Dimmer, Henneberry, Kavannagh, Kielly, Long, Murphy, Phelan, and Walsh. A lot of these names are still around today. In 1976 the three communities of Fox Cove, Mortier (originally called Little Mortier), and Tides Cove joined together to form the incorporated community of Fox Cove-Mortier. While here you can visit the Tide's Point Lighthouse. Town of Fox Cove-Mortier Box 17 Site 25 Burin, NF A0E 1E0 Tel: (709) 891-1500 | ||||||||||||
