We spent most of our time on the Avalon peninsula, with a brief trip down to the tip of Burin to visit St Pierre and Miquelon.  The major stop on Avalon (other than St John's) was around Brigus where Glen was researching Antle family ancestors.

When we left St John's, we headed out on the Marine Drive, driving North towards Cape St Francis.
Middle Cove was the first place we stopped and had a look around.  We were taken by the clear blue water crashing on the rocks.
     Middle Cove again.
We kept on Marine Drive, but at Pouch Cove we cut over to Conception Bay and drove on down to Portugal Cove for lunch.
I'm not sure what all happens in Holyrood when they have a Squid Fest, but we didn't stay to find out.
Soon after that we reached Brigus (see more photos). When we left Brigus, we spent a few hours wandering around a Heritage Trail that is out on the tip of land past French's Cove.
Apparently, the rocks there are mad, or they drive the sailors mad.

Dildo is a little town on the route from Harbour Grace back to the TCH and we had to stop there for a photo and so Susan could send her mother a postcard!
And then we were on our way down the Burin peninsula to Grand Bank, Fortune and the French islands of St Pierre and Miquelon (see more photos). After that we were driving north on our way to Botwood and Gros Morne.
We saw an iceberg near Clarenville, way off in the North West Arm, but we would have had to go over to Random Island to get any closer to it and we didn't have the time.
As we passed by Gambo on the TCH there was a lookout over the town dedicated to Glen's 4th cousin twice removed: the Honourable Joseph Roberts Smallwood, first Premier of Newfoundland, or rather ... Joey.
